We created a garden space that took the earth excavated and used it directly within the site for features such as a pounded-earth wall façade with soft, natural colors, and a grassy mound forming the main garden. The mound is shaped after Mt. Hiei, which is visible from, and visually incorporated into the garden. For plantings, as far as possible we selected neutral vegetation, like the plants that spontaneously take hold in the foothills of rural mountains. Our aim was to create ashakkeigarden, a garden created as a miniature version of Kyoto's natural beauty.
